I plan to offer all teachers at my school a copy of this January student reading challenge to give to individual students or to use as a class. Students can come up with a goal for each month: I want to read for 20 minutes each day. Students color each numbered picture for each day of achieving that reading goal in January. OR teachers can have a student color in the correlating picture for the day when she reads to students as a class. I haven’t yet tried it, but teachers could print a large engineering print and display in the classroom too!
The second image is another take on the January student reading challenge. Have students select a goal: How many minutes do I want to read in January total? Break this goal up into even increments and place those in the lines provided on the left side of the page. When students meet each small goal, they can color in their snowflake. Students can also color in the circles around the border of the page for each book read this month. This January Reading Meter is also provided in the link above.
