This is one of my FAVORITE transformations!! AND –believe it or not— is SUPER simple. This transformation was of course inspired by the almighty Hope King. I simply cut lots of string (pretty long) so that it can reach from floor to ceiling. I then work in groups of 3. I stick groups of 3 strings in our ceiling tiles and then tape them to reinforce. After a few minutes you’ve got several groups all over your class room, just hanging from your ceiling. Next, use tape to attach the bottom ends of your string to the floor, walls, and other furniture in your room, cutting the extra off accordingly. Finally set up your black lights…I only used two….BUT my room has no windows so it works really well in the darkness.
This year I set up 9 missions (activities from my weekly spelling, vocabulary, fluency, and comprehension lessons) around my room, split my students into groups of 2/3, and BAM…instant engagement!!
In our classroom we use a dojo point reward system for behavior management! I decided that my students needed a little incentive to work hard, so I came up with SECRET SPY CODES for students to earn throughout their day. Using sticky notes and a “spy pen“, I wrote certain amounts of dojo points on each one. While they worked, I would choose groups that were working well to come select a sticky note. They uncovered the points with a glow light! Some stickies had up to 10 dojo points and some had none. It worked like a CHARM!
